Sometime midway through the long ordeal, while Ryan desperately called 911 to report the spiraling and bizarre situation which had unfolded as they were sped out to an isolated home where both Ryan and Gina's cell phones were not working for anything but 911 (while other people all had cell service and were seen routinely making calls throughout the incident), Jana struck Ryan in the back of the head using a closed fist and perhaps while holding a blunt object without warning or provocation. Ryan stumbled and was nearly knocked unconscious, turned to see his attacker and saw Jana laughing and goading him to fight.
